2008 Torbay Conversions
New Yorker

Overview Photos

Outside:
Torbay choose not to tamper with the lines of the latest generation Ducato, so the exterior looks neat, tidy and understated.  Taking metallic paint as shown here takes it out of the ‘commercial’ class without drawing too much attention and once you have a couple of items like the bike rack and awning fitted, it looks a completely different vehicle .

There is a good amount of light available through the side and rear body windows, plus a Seitz rooflight is fitted.  Services are easily accessed; gas and toilet compartments through the rear vehicle doors, whilst 230v input and water tank filler are on the drivers’ side.

Inside:
The sliding side door gives access to the lounge area, having a single forward facing seat on the nearside and side facing settee on the offside. These seats feature adjustable bases, backrest rake and headrest height, without sacrificing useful storage space under both.  At night-time, the bed makeup from these seat mechanisms is a doddle, quickly making a very comfortable sleeping space.

Naturally both front cab seats swivel to incorporate into the lounging area, however those who are short in the leg may find their feet dangling due to the differing floor levels between the cab and lounge.  There is a handy storage cupboard in the front overcab area with a rather shallow access door, although this also means that access/egress between the cab and lounge area is straightforward.

The ‘L’ shape kitchen offers good worktop space and lots of storage options via under worktop cupboards and over worktop lockers, plus some open storage at the end of the kitchen unit. Standard equipment includes hob, oven, grill and microwave.  Opposite the kitchen worktop is a generous wardrobe.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the rear washroom, a space which is really practical for essential use, rather than on every occasion.  The vanity sink is small by necessity and water runoff when showering is contained by a curtain.

Summary:
Torbay have packed a lot into a small space and delivered a stylish, competent feeling van conversion with all the facilities of larger coachbuilts.

Inside, the New Yorker feels light, bright and airy, with comfortable lounge seating, plus a well equipped kitchen with plenty of workspace.  Inevitably, there are some compromises, such as the tight washroom, but would you rather be without one?
