Hymer Classic C 644 6 berth: |

![]() |
If you are looking for a solid, dependable used family motorhome, the Hymer C 644 is worth appraising. Whilst it might not win on looks, this motorhome has a number of good practical features and a pedigree to make it the Volkswagen Passat of motorhomes. 6 seatbelts were present on the model we viewed, which is a good start. A generous double bed with good mattress is over the cab, whilst at the back, another double is present over the rear garage area. Some versions of the 644 have a rear ‘U’ shape lounge with a smaller storage area underneath, which still converts into a double bed too (see picture). The dinette seating has additional components to make another double bed midships. The kitchen isn’t huge, but there is a usable worksurface on two levels. The washroom is opposite, offering a decent size separate shower (with a curtain to one side). Whilst there are numerous lockers, cupboards and cubbyholes, the wardrobe looks almost out of place adjacent to the entrance door, but its roof doubles up as a TV stand, or somewhere to put your cup of tea in bed in the morning. As mentioned above, if you want storage, then go for the version with the rear fixed bed and full garage under. If you go for the rear lounge, bear in mind it will not be terribly big, although the extra seating area may work better for larger families. The big overcab will find overhanging branches or other low height obstacles when navigating tight spots and the rear overhang may also catch out the unwary.
